While rugby is played by millions of people over the world, it is still relatively unknown to American athletes. 

If you are new to rugby, rest assured that our coaches are ready to help you learn the game and gain the important knowledge needed to play safely and effectively!

Our club is a no-cut sport, meaning every player who wishes to participate will have an opportunity.

*  Team Practices are Mon/Wed/Fri

*  Indoor Practice start in February at Mount Nittany Middle School.

*  Outdoor practice starts after Spring Break at the High School

Spring 15s is from February to May, with appx 6 games on Sundays in March, April and May.

There are also opportunities for 7s tournament play in Summer and Fall. More information will be provided closer to the respective events.

All of our coaches are all volunteers.

Individual coaches' status as volunteers with SCASD is updated each year, including submission of background checks and understanding of all SCASD policies and protocols relating to volunteering with the students.

Our coaches are also registered and trained through RugbyPA and USA Rugby. All coaches are certified to coach rugby and/or are in the process of completing their certification.

Away Games are typically within 2 hours drive, with the farthest possible match being 4 hours.

Our club carpools to away games, and students are not allowed to drive themselves, regardless of age. Parents can volunteer to carpool if available, though it is not expected.

Travel surveys are generated before a match to determine logistical needs for the club.

As a club sport, State College Rugby relies on the generosity of time and resources from the player-families, and the community.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS

Whether it is after-match team dinners, equipment upgrades, field repair, or travelling to tournaments, our parents are a vital resource in helping students get the very most from State College Rugby!

Our club relies on parent volunteers through carpooling to away matches, preparing team dinners for after each home match, and helping transport team equipment.

FUNDRAISING

Parents and athletes alike can also help the club through fundraising participation in community events. Our club volunteers in community events, and we host our own club fundraisers, and rely on general participation in SCASD opportunities to raise funds such as through merchandise sales.

All of the funds generated go directly to ensuring that student athletes are able to play rugby in Happy Valley, providing much needed access to equipment upgrades, fields needs, and yearly tournament opportunities.

The State College Rugby Club (including all teams, coaches, and players) is a member of RugbyPA, a State Youth Rugby Organization under the auspices of USA Rugby and USA Youth & High School Rugby, the national governing bodies for the sport of Rugby Union in the United States.

We expect our players, coaches, and spectators to follow all Codes of Conduct outlined by RugbyPA.
